This week's entry for Mixtape Mondays is the "Big L 5/30 Tribute" from one of my very favorite DJ's in NYC,
DJ Soul. If some of you didn't know,
Big L, legendary Harlem rapper from the 90's and a member of the D.I.T.C. Crew, was tragically murdered in 1999 at the very blossoming of his musical career. May 30th just happened to be Big L's birthday and my man, DJ Soul, dropped this amazing mixtape last Saturday commemorating the young rapper's life and work. You can also find the mixtape available at DJ Soul's Blog
"Mic Check" which is filled with incredible oldschool hip-hop/classic music downloads and updates on events & parties as well as news, fashion & current affairs. Soul's made countless classic mixtapes like "Diddy St. Tropez R&B Classics" and the critically acclaimed "Assorted Donuts: A Tribute to J-Dilla". From his insane reggae and 80's r&b sets in the clubs, to dj'ing for The Chappelle Show, DJ Soul is definitely a major icon in the NY hip-hop & nightlife scene. Many thanks for the mixtape my dude & I hope to catch you in NY sometime soon. Crooked signing out...
