KNYEW Video Featured on "In The Mo"

Back in November, a new recommendation website called InTheMo.com stopped through at KNYEW to film a video feature on our shop. InTheMo is similar to Yelp except it's a video-based guide to anything from restaurants, nightclubs, hair salons to clothing boutiques in any city around the world. Users can share their local expertise & recommend their favorite spots worldwide. You can easily create a profile & start giving recommendations to other users in your own hometown or other cities in the states or overseas. You can log onto their site & recommend KNYEW in their "Best Shopping in Las Vegas" section (do it now!). We really appreciate InTheMo reaching out to us & letting us spread the Knyewtron word past LV's city limits (thanks Lauren). Check the video & don't forget to "Rec" KNYEW on InTheMo.

UNLV Rebels Invade KNYEW!!!

A couple of days ago my fellow Knyewtrons & UNLV Football stand outs, Mike Clausen & Omar Clayton, hit me up about a little project they were working on. I thought maybe I'd have to dust off my rhetoric skills and help them with a term paper but thank goodness, that wasn't the case. It turns out they were being interviewed by the lovely Molly Sullivan for the Mountain West Network in Las Vegas. Molly and her camera crew were following Mike and Omar for an expose documenting their day to day life as UNLV Students & Football Starters. The fellas came by Knyew and kept it as real as any other visit they may have had at the shop. We joked, we laughed and somehow, I ended up in front of the camera (luckily, no questions were thrown my way). Big shout out to Mike, Omar, Molly Sullivan and her crew for stopping by KNYEW and showing us love. GO REBELS!!!

A couple of weeks ago The Dank House approached the KNYEW Crew for an interview. Who is The Dank House? These gentleman are up and coming local artists pushing a hip hop movement here in Las Vegas. I've been logging onto their blog listening to music, watching videos, and interviews pushing Vegas artists and showing everyone out there that Vegas is more than these neon lights, poker tournaments and pool parties. KNYEW x PEEP FLOW

I've been peeping this site for the past few months called PEEP FLOW and they showcase streetwear fashion from different designers and retailers all across the country. They give you sneak peeks of collections for next season from various brands whether it be tees, cut & sew, new era's or sneakers. I recently saw them feature our KNYEW Tank Tops on their site and was definitely honored to be cast into the mix. Peep our quick cameo here. KNYEW's Fashion Show @ LAVO

On June 16th, me & the fellas at KNYEW invaded LAVO Nightclub in the Palazzo Hotel to throw a fashion show for their "Label Junkie Wednesday" party. I called up my girl, Channelle, to help style the models and put together some great looks for the night. We got some amazing giftbag goodies from the ladies at DIMEPIECE who gave us a gang of promo tees & tanks for free giveaways (you're the best Ashley!). I have to thank Laura from Platinum Models, Mike Snedegar aka DJ Pause & Ashley Staszak from TAO GROUP & the whole staff at LAVO for going above and beyond to make this night a success. We've dealt with alot of different venues for alot of various events and LAVO was by far the most supportive and accommodating...thank you. And last but certainly not least...a big shout to all our loyal Knyewtrons who came out to support us and drink the night away!!!

A few days ago, Kenn received a visit from Travis Bass of Ninja Neishon, a lifestyle brand and blog site based in San Diego. Travis has been following our site over the past year and decided to stop thru the shop to take a few flicks and ask some questions while he was in town. "I had just spent a few days in sin city and I was already feeling the repercussions. Late nights full of dancing and partying, lights everywhere, gambling etc. It was a lot to recover from. Luckily I picked the one place in Vegas where I could relax and connect with some real homies for a few hours. Kenn and I began our conversation with simple formalities and interesting stories from our businesses, yet as the night wore on I was able to hear some good insights into the streetwear industry from a man who has seen it all first hand."

"Something that Kenn and I both appreciate is a brand that stays true to its roots; meaning that we like to see creativity and businesses coming from people and not from no name entities that run it from the background. Putting a face or faces to a company is important to everyone involved. Kenn’s signature hair is easy to recognize and he never hesitates to be a representative for Knyew no matter what the situation."

"When DJ Crooked and DJ Neva approached Kenn three years ago to be a part of Knyew, Kenn was working at a local sneaker shop. All three of them decided that Las Vegas needed a focal point for fashion that carried something other than just the Ed Hardy. With their inspiration, their connections and a passion to be number one in the city, KNYEW was born."

"Kenn showed me around the office. I heard about Kenn’s ultimate dreams which include moving back to a beachside city in Italy that he fell in love with when traveling there. (Maybe it was the topless beaches… maybe). We talked about KNYEW’s success and about the rising popularity that their store and brand has been getting."

"When people would come up to Kenn on the street because they recognized him, it really threw him off. He said he’s still not used to it, but it’s definitely flattering. But he pointed out to me that he is just like any other guy on the street, he just “has big fucking hair.”

"I cruised around his store some more and found some of my favorite brands. We talked about The Hundreds and how he has watched them grow their business from the ground up. He is impressed with their marketing and with their ability to create a community around what they do. I shared with him a secret mission Ninja Neishon has with The Hundreds… so secret not even they know about it yet."

"I’m really diggin the art around the place. Kenn talked to me about how hard it was to define what their store was when they first opened. Las Vegas didn’t have a boutique dedicated entirely to streetwear at the time and so people would try and classify their shop as “urban.” He and I both agreed that the term “urban” is used in inappropriate ways. For instance the ethnicity of your skin can often determine whether a label you’re starting is considered skate, streetwear or urban. Obviously this is ridiculous, but it does happen. It’s a very interesting point to bring up and it deserves your attention next time you’re reading into labels. What makes something urban? What makes something streetwear? Just some food for thought, Ninjas. After a few hours I eventually had to get back for another night of Ninjaing in Vegas. I thanked Kenn again for taking the time to show me around and as I walked out I resisted my urge to pick up a few things while I was there. If I hadn’t been down a few hundred already I definitely would have… but next time for sure."

Please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about what you do.

My name is Kenn Davenport A.K.A. Kenny Knyewtron. I am the managing partner and one of the three founders of Knyew. I handle all the day to day operations including buying, retail organization, logistics, and customer service.

What is life like up in Las Vegas, as far as music, nightlife, fashion, and popular culture?

Las Vegas is a city like no other in a lot of ways. We are a hospitality / service oriented city, so nothing really closes here. Life here is what you make it. There are two sides to Las Vegas. If you want to drink yourself into the ground, lose your life earnings gambling, or party in epic style you can do that. On the other hand, Las Vegas does have a growing sense of community. Vegas is almost like any other city…We just have a lot of hotels, casinos, and nightclubs. Nightlife, Pop culture, and a lot of fashion run hand in hand here…It can be rather corny at times. There are a few of us here trying to buck the trend and offer Las Vegas more.

Tell us a little about KNYEW and the people involved.

Knyew (pronounced new) was founded by DJ Crooked (Richard Sung), DJ Neva (Evan Boyd), and myself. Knyew stands for Keeping New York Every Where. Crooked and Neva have been DJing here in Vegas for over five years, both gents are native New Yorkers. What kind of brands does KNYEW carry? We carry brands that are very recognizable within the street wear and street culture community. Brands such as The Hundreds, Crooks and Castles, Diamond Supply, Huf, 10 Deep, Acapulco Gold, Black Scale…To see the complete listing of what brands we carry peep knyew.blogspot.com.

What are some of your favourite brands out right now?

The Hundreds, I have a lot of respect for what they are doing with the brand and for what they are doing for our industry. I really like what Mega and the boys are doing with Black Scale. Acapulco Gold is also one of my favorites as well.

What new upcoming events or releases are you currently working on?

I would tell you but then I’d have to kill you. Just joking. As I mentioned we are trying to bring more to Las Vegas. We plan on continuing our bi-monthly party here in Vegas called “Backspin” where we play nothing but old school hip-hop, r&b, reggae and classics. DJ legends like Riz from Crooklyn Clan and local favorites like Five and OB-One have made this event a platform for good music in Las Vegas. Everyone looks forward to our “Backspin” parties and we’re proud to bring this type of gathering for our peoples. We also plan on developing some cut and sew pieces this year like button-down shirts, crew neck sweaters and light jackets. Our most recent t-shirt designs like the “MLB” and “Token” have been getting a very positive response so it only seemed natural to further the KNYEW brand by expanding into some outerwear. I have a few collaboration projects in the works too but I can’t tell you about those. Really.

What would you say are the most difficult aspects or being in your line of work?

I only get to slim it down to a few things??? For me the most difficult aspect is…nothing big really. We opened Knyew and built it from the ground up. We have no corporation backing us or a silent partner with deep pockets. We do this for our own reasons with our own beliefs behind it. Everyday presents a new challenge for me, nothing stays the same from day to day. Making adjustments is a big part of what we have to do in our industry. I’m sure there are “purists” out there that want things to stay the same. If that was the case we wouldn’t be where we are today.

The fashion and music worlds are often tied together…What music artists out right now are grabbing your attention?

No one really, I feel that a lot of music artist get their gear for free. So do all of them wear it because they love it or because it is free? That isn’t attention worthy to me.
