This week entry for "Mixtape Monday's" is called Moombahton Road Trip" from my boy and Knyew's official model DJ-D-Miles. This mixtape is a dope 40 minute introduction to a new sound that's starting to get a lot of play in the club's recently. For those of you who's not familiar with Moombahton, its a new form of electronic dance music that combines the sound of dutch house slowed down with a bit of reggaeton. This mixtape is a definite must have. If you happen to be in Vegas you can catch D-Miles holding down his residencies at Tao, Marquee or Drai's Afterhours. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Franzen

This weeks entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "Frantastik Mix 2011: OVOXO Edition" by Las Vegas/Bay Area's own DJ Franzen. This mixtape is a complete collection of Drake's latest bangers and features upcoming Canadian R&B artist The Weekend (who Drake publicly co-signed by quoting one of the lines from his track "Wicked Game" via Twitter). For those of you who don't know, DJ Franzen's been on radio & heavily involved in the music industry for almost 20 years. I love kicking it with him when he comes by KNYEW cause he always has a story to tell from back in the days. Whether he's riding high with Jigga & Memphis Bleek on Jay's private Jet or hanging out in the Westcoast, gettin smoked out with Biggie & Lil Cease, Franzen's touched hands with every major player in the game. This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "The Teacher: The Best of KRS-One" by New Jersey's own DJ Books. Originally released back in 2009, DJ Books put together a solid compilation of KRS-One's classic hits from his solo career & his timeless anthems from his original group "Boogie Down Productions". Bangers like "I'm still #1", "Criminal Minded", "Step Into The World" & "Sound Of The Police", this is a must have for any BDP fan. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Sean Perry

This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "Coo11in" from our own New York hellfire & devoted Knyewtron,  "DJ Sean Perry". Whenever Sean releases a new mixtape, I'm always anxious to hear them cause they never disappoint. "Coo11in" is a straight up, raw hip-hop/r&b mix that ends with a splash of Dance/Electro, perfect for listening to in your whip while you're driving down the block or lamping at the park, drinking something cold in a paper bag. I've had the pleasure of knowing Sean for almost 6 years & not only is he a good friend but he's one of my favorite DJ's in the game. When Sean's not pulling suckas crowns on Twitter or spinning high profile events like "The Hamptons Magazine Party for Mary J. Blige", you can catch him headlining at some of the hottest venues in Manhattan (Tenjune, SL, Juliet) & the Hamptons (SL East). Many thanks to Sean Perry for putting out another classic mixtape. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Rumor

This week's entry for "Mixtape Monday's" is called "Rumor Has It 2011" by New York's own DJ Rumor. You Knyewtrons might be familiar with Rumour who was featured on "Mixtape Monday's" earlier this year for his classic "90's R&B Mix". "Rumor Has It 2011" is a mix of all the latest club bangers from Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Avicii, & Calvin Harris. He even throws in a little Moombahton at the end of the mix. If you're having a house party & you need the perfect mix to get that club vibe going, then "Rumor Has It" is a must have. I finally got a chance to meet Rumor back in February when he was spinning at the M.A.G.I.C. Trade Show here in Vegas. He was absolutely murdering it during the convention with a great mix of funk & soul. Hopefully he'll be out here next month for M.A.G.I.C. & provide the same soundtrack for the show. When Rumor is not DJ'ing for the WNBA's New York Liberty, you can catch him spinning at some of the hottest venues in the city like Greenhouse, Griffin & 675. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: The Captains Of Industry

This week's special 4th of July entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "Mas Trabajo" by The Captains Of Industry aka "Your Favorite DJ's Favorite DJs" aka  DJ Stonerokk & DJ Graham Funke. "Mas Trabajo" is the the official follow up to their 2007 widely popular mix "Trabajo". To be honest, I haven't stopped listening to this new mix, featuring the latest club bangers blended perfectly with timeless oldies but goldies from every genre of music you can think of. Within the last 10 years since they've teamed up, the Captains have not only held down residencies at Hollywood's newest tabloid friendly hot spots but they also spin at some of the biggest nightclubs in the country (Las Vegas, Miami & Chicago to name a few). 

If you happen to be in Vegas you can catch them sippin' on sangria and spinning at "Regatta Chic Sundays" at Marquee Dayclub inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino. Many thanks to the homies Stone Rokk and Graham Funke for providing us with this weeks fix for "Mixtape Mondays" (I'm still trying to figure out where you guys found Paul "Boom Boom" Lekakis to do a shout out on your mix). MIXTAPE MONDAYS: Grandmaster Flash

This week's entry for "Mixtape Monday's is called "Essential Mix: Classic Edition" by the legendary Grandmaster Flash. This mixtape is definitely one of my top 5 favorite mixtapes of all time. I used to play this CD so much that I had to buy another copy cause the original got worn out & scratched up. Originally released in 2002, the "Essential Mix" is a mix of classic R&B/B-Boy classics like "Rapture" by Blondie, "Before I Let Go" by Maze ft Frankie Beverly, "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose by James Brown, "Liquid Liquid" by Cavern", I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz & many more. If you grew up in New York during the early to mid 80's & was at a neighborhood block party, the songs featured on this mixtape would've been the music blasting out of every speaker. One of the founding fathers of hip hop & considered one of the greatest Hip-Hop DJ's of all time, Flash is also responsible for developing & perfecting the following DJ techniques that are still practiced to this day: Cutting, Back Spinning & Punch-Phrasing.
Because of Flash's pioneering skills as a dj, it has been said that he was able to transform the turntable into a musical instrument. But of all the achievements he's accomplished in the past 35 years of his career, the best had to be was when he (along with his group "The Furious Five") was the first Hip-Hop/Rap group to be inducted into the "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" back in 2007. Still to this day you can catch Flash performing live at nightclubs throughout the world. As a matter of fact, if you happen to be in Vegas this coming Wednesday, June 30th, you can see him spinning alongside Knyew's own DJ Crooked at Lavo Nightclub for our weekly "Oldschool Wednesday" party in the Palazzo Hotel & Casino. This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "The S-Bar Mixtape" by DJ Zimmie, DJ Nugget & DJ T-One. You Knyewtrons might be familiar with Pittsburgh's own DJ Zimmie & DJ Nugget. They have both been featured on Mixtape Mondays before but this time around, they got together with their homie DJ T-One and put together this mix to celebrate the 4 year anniversary of S-Bar in Pittsburgh. Since it's opening S-Bar has been at the forefront of nightlife in Pittsburgh. As a special thank you to their local supporters they decided to have their resident DJ's put together this special mix. The mixtape starts off on a mellow vibe and slowly works it's way up to the latest hip hop/electro dance hits. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Premier

This week's entry for "Mixtape Monday"s is called "Malcolm McLaren Tribute Mix" by none other then Gang Starr's DJ Premier. I came across this mixtape while I was checking out Premier's blog site "DJPremierBlog.com". This is a mix Premier put together right after the death of producer/manager Malcolm McLaren last year. You might be familiar with Malcom McClaren for introducing the world to the godfathers of punk rock, The Sex Pistols. What a lot of people might not know is that he's also responsible for exposing hip hop to the United Kingdom. Malcom McLaren himself was introduced to hop hop in the early 80's from the legendary Afrika Bambatta. Thru that meeting, Malcom met New York radio DJ's The World Famous Surpreme Team. Together they recorded the album "Duck Rock" that featured the b-boy classic "Buffalo Girls". This tribute mix has alot of songs that Malcom either produced or was heavily involved with like "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow, "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" by Yes, & "Moment Of Love" by Art Of Noise. Malcom was one of the first producers to successfully combine hip hop, funk & punk rock into one sound. If you're into current groups like Kings Of Leon, Passion Pit, Holy Ghost & MGMT, then you'll get an idea of where they got there sound from. Like Primo say's at the end of the mix, "Do Your Homework". Punk rock aside, Malcolm McLaren was also a legend in hip hop. Enjoy Knyewtrons...Neva.

MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Justin Hoffman & 19Sixty

This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "Eclectism" by the homies DJ Justin Hoffman & DJ 19Sixty. I have been listening to this mix cd since it first came out and I still haven't stopped listening to it. The title says it all. It's an eclectic mix of music by artist's from the past (such as Marvin Gaye, Steve Arrington, Ann Robinson) to the most current (Adele, Coldplay, Roots). If you're expecting to hear the same music that's played 24/7 on the radio or in the clubs then this mixtape might not be your cup of tea. But if you're willing to try something a bit different then you definitely won't be disappointed.
Known for his edits and productions, 19Sixty is already making a name for himself within the short time he's been living in Vegas. He currently holds weekly residencies at some of the hottest clubs in town (Blush at the Wynn Hotel & Casino, Bond at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino & Chateau at Paris Hotel & Casino). As for Mr. Hoffman.... what can I say about this guy. Not only is he a good friend but he's the OG Triple OG of the Vegas club DJ's and he's still holding it down. Originally from Boston, Justin has been a fixture in Vegas nightlife for over 11 years. In my opinion I consider Justin one of the best DJ's in town. When he's not talking trash about the Republican Party or Fox News, you can catch him spinning weekly at either Gold Lounge in Aria Hotel & Casino or Drai's Afterhours in Bill's Gamblin' Hall & Saloon. Also if you happen to be watching a major boxing event on ppv or cable, you might see Justin behind the turntables doing his thing. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: STRETCH ARMSTRONG & PUFF DADDY

This week's entry for Mixtape Monday's is a throwback from the 90's called "Bad Boy Mixtape Vol. 3" by Stretch Armstrong & Puff Daddy (aka Diddy for all you youngsters). When this mixtape came out Bad Boy Records had just started and it was the hottest label on the streets. So to coincide with the start up of his label Puff Daddy decided to put out a series of mixtapes with some of New York's top DJ's at the time. Personally, this was my favorite in the series featuring DJ Stretch Armstrong. Not only did Stretch have New York on lock down with the "Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show" on WKCR 89.9, he was also spinning at some of the most exclusive hip hop parties back then. Together they put out a mixtape that featured the best east coast rappers during that era (Biggie, Nas, Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes, Redman, just to name a few). This mixtape is also known for having a Biggie & Lox unreleased track "You'll See". With Stretch cutting it up and Puffy with his ad-libs in the background (Take That Take That), there's no way you can go wrong. So if you miss that classic 90's hip hop or you just wanna learn some history, then please download this mixtape. It's definitely a must have in your collection. Thank you Puff & Stretch for bringing back memories of hitting up Rock & Soul Records every week to buy doubles of everything released on Bad Boy and staying up till 5:00am on Friday mornings listening to Stretch & Bobbito talking trash to listener's calling in on the show.

MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ REACH

This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "What Happens In Vegas" by my man DJ Reach. This mixtape is a great dance mix recorded live at Tao Nightclub in Las Vegas where Reach spins at every Friday. I knew Reach back in NY around 2003 when he was the DJ for Last Call with Carson Daly & now he's spinning celebrity events for the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Madonna, Kim Kardashian, The Black Eyed PeasSince. I recently got a chance to hear him at New York hot spot RDV a few months ago. His high-energy, eclectic DJ set had the crowd going crazy. It was a Wednesday night at 4 in the morning & the dance floor was still packed. If Reach ever comes to your town, I highly recommend you to check him out. You won't be disappointed. This week's entry for "Mixtape Monday's" is called "The Party Life" by our homie, San Diego's own, DJ Chris Cutz. This mixtape is a high energy mix of House, Electro, Hip Hop & Top 40 dance that's guaranteed to keep your head nodding from beginning to end. Growing up listening to 70's, 80's and 90's music, Chris Cutz turned to DJ'ing as a way to pay homage to the genre of music he loves the most: Hip Hop. When he's behind the turntables, his sets flow effortlessly between every genre of music you can think of (he's also pretty nasty with his scratching). MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Mr. Thing

This week's entry for "Mixtape Monday's" is called "The Kings of Hip Hop" by DJ Mr Thing. This mixtape was originally a double disc CD that Mr Thing did in 2005 with DJ Premier (I'll post Premo's mix in a few weeks). If you appreciate old school hip-hop then you're gonna love this mix. All the songs on here are from the "The Golden Age Of Hip Hop". Mr Thing start things off with some early 90's like Boot Camp Click (Smif N Wessun & Black Moon), then puts some De La Soul & Pete Rock into the mix & finally, he switches it back to the late 80's (Big Daddy Kane, Eric B & Rakim & Ultramagnetic MC's). If you like what you hear on this mixtape then you should definitely check out the upcoming events this week that Knyew is gonna be part of. First one is gonna be on April 19th for Super Cr3w's 11 year anniversary!!! This event is gonna take place at The Hard Rock Cafe on Las Vegas Blvd. Special guests include The Jabbawockeez, DJ Franzen and KNYEW's very own DJ Crooked. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Vibe

This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "Constant Contact" by my brother from another, NY's own DJ Vibe. This mixtape has all the latest dance/electro tracks from Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Klass & Tiesto. If you need a solid mix of what's being played in the clubs right now then this mixtape is a must have. Growing up in Southampton, Vibe started going out to all the high profile nightclubs in NY at any early age & became infatuated with DJ'ing. I first met Vibe back in 2000 when I was spinning at Jet East in the Hampton's where he was bar backing at the ripe age of 16. I remember how he would always approach me, asking about the old school R&B classics I played at the beginning of the night. At first it was annoying, but after a while, I respected the fact that he had an interest in the classics & made an effort to learn about the artists & their music. Not only would he find these records on vinyl but he would tell me random facts about the label & production that I didn't even know about. After graduating from NYU, receiving his Masters of Music from their Graduate Music Technology Program, Vibe became a leading figure in the mixtape circuit, selling CD's to hip hop shops all over the world. You can find Vibe spinning at some of New York's trendiest night clubs playing an eclectic set of everything from Disco, Soul, Funk & New Wave to Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae & Rock 'n'Roll. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ MamaBear

This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "Live At Hotline" by my homegirl from The Bay, DJ Mamabear. This mix was recorded live on 3-29-11 at her weekly Tuesday party called Hotline at Otis Lounge in SF. This mixtape has a great collection of R&B hits like "Brown Sugar" by D'Angelo, "Groove Thang" by Zhane & "Think Of You" by Amerie & also forgotten classics like "Number One" by Patrice Rushen & one hit wonders like "I Choose You" by Confection. What's so unique about this mixtape is that Mamabear recorded it live & spun everything on vinyl, which is absolutely unheard of this day and age of laptops & Serato. I had the opportunity to spin with Mamabear a couple of months ago when I was in San Diego doing my boy DJ Beatnick's party at Bar Dynamite. Not only was she playing classic R&B & Hip Hop joints at this party but she was doing it on vinyl & that totally blew me away. If you're ever in San Francisco, you can catch Mamabear at her Hotline party or Double Dutch at Side 2 Side, every third Thursday of the month. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Kid Capri

This week's entry for Mixtape Mondays is a throwback from back in the days when mixtapes were actually recorded on cassette tapes. The name of this old school mix is called "The Legendary Kid Capri 10/9" by DJ Kid Capri (aka The Italian Stallion aka The Almighty Whitey aka Straight From The Boogie Down Bronx), one of the best DJ's in hip-hop history. Not only has Capri been holding it down for over 25 years, but he also pioneered & elevated the way DJ's made mixtapes. This tape came out in Fall 1989 & it's known for having one of the best "intros" ever. Capri starts the "intro" off with the vocals from Stephanie Mills "Something In The Way You Make Me Feel" & scratches in the drums from The Honey Drippers "Impeach The President", creating one of the first blends ever recorded (a blend back then was the beginning stages of what we call mash-ups today). If you walked down 125th street at that time, you'd hear nothing but the this Stephanie Mills x Honey Drippers blend being played nonstop from block to block. It's been over 22 years later & you can still find Kid Capri travelling around the world, still holding down his title as one of the best DJ's to ever rock a party. Enjoy Knyewtrons...Neva.

MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Fresh One

This week's entry for Mixtape Mondays is called "Plug It In & Turn Me On" by our homie, San Diego's own, DJ Fresh One. This mixtape is a mix of all the latest Electro/Dance/Hip Hop bangers that are being played in the clubs today. It also has some dope original production work that Fresh remixed himself (hopefully he'll hook a brother up). Fresh One has been in the DJ game for nearly a decade & has an extensive resume in SD, holding down residencies at premiere venues like Stingaree, Ivy Nightclub, Bar West, Club 207, Float & Intervention at the Hardrock San Diego. Homeboy has Diego on lock. He also started a new dj residency at Bond in the newly opened Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino here in Las Vegas. When Fresh isn't behind the turntables or studio mixing boards, he's running "Sleeping Giant Music", a full service talent agency for local DJ's, producers & artists like DJ Scooter, DJ Lavelle, DJ Chris Cutz, DJ Beatnick & many more (check out www.giantsarise.com for more info). With everything that Fresh One has on his plate, he's just launched this new site called "Simply Gigantic", an all-in-one tool for artists to market & promote their music. An artist can provide everything from bio information, music downloads & photo galleries as well as collect email subscriptions for email blasts, post events & organize guestlists through the site's online services.

MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ 88

This week's entry for Mixtape Mondays is called "Snitch-The Soundtrack" from my homegirl DJ 88. "Snitch" is a weekly party at Ghostbar inside the Palms Casino & Resort in Las Vegas where 88 is the resident DJ. In just a year, "Snitch" has become one of the most successful weekly parties in town. Just like the party, this mixtape consist of an assorted mix of music which 88 calls "ElectroClassicHipHopFutureDiscoDopeness". This mixtape has everything for the latest club bangers (Martin Solveig's "Hello") all the way to classic jams from way back in the days (Freeze's "I.O.U."). Snitch-The Soundtrack is definitely a must have to add to your music collection.

I've had the pleasure of knowing 88 for a minute. Originally from Los Angeles, but now in Las Vegas, 88 has been DJing for nearly 8 years but her grind shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. She's built quite a resume in a short period of time, holding down residencies in some of Vegas' hottest venues to opening for artists such as The Roots, De La Soul & Snoop Dogg (just to name a few). Not only is 88 a great DJ but she is also known for her philanthropy work. She does a bi-annually event called "Sunday In The Valley" (which Knyew was honored to be part of a while back) that raises awareness for animal-rescue and adoption. So far the event has raised over $40,000 for various animal rescue organizations. Good looks for the mixtape 88 (I'm still waiting for soul food sunday's at the crib) & a big shout out to the Snitch crew DJ Mike Attack & Dave Fogg. Enjoy Knyewtrons...Neva.

MIXTAPE MONDAYS: DJ Zimmie

This week's entry for Mixtape Mondays is called "Live At New Amsterdam" by my man, my mellow DJ Zimmie from Pittsburgh, PA aka The Steel City aka Black N' Yellow. This mixtape is a live mix of classic hip hop jams with some original jazz/soul record samples that Zimmie recently recorded at the venue New Amsterdam in Pittsburgh. I met Zimmie in 2008 during the M.A.G.I.C. Trade Show when he flew in with his partner in crime DJ Nugget to spin a Scion event we were throwing at V-Bar. It was around this time that we also met Zimmie's peeps, Christian & Aaron from Pittsburgh, who later opened Shop.412 in late 2008 (check their infamous "412" tees). When Zimmie's not spinning at local hotspots like S Bar & hi-profile events for the Steelers & Penguins, he's producing & contributing remixes regularly to DJCity.
