"Oldschool Weds" at LAVO with Phife from A Tribe Called Quest

It's been almost 5 months now & our "Oldschool Weds" party at LAVO has been thriving, getting better & better every week all thanks to the support of our Knyewtrons in & out of Las Vegas. This week we got Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest & actor/director Michael Rappaport in the building, celebrating the release of their new documentary "Beats Ryhmes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest". Having seen this doc over 5 times, I can't explain how amazing it was to see the birth, life & tragic destruction of my favorite childhood hip-hop captured on film. I've been an ATCQ fan since "I Left My Wallet In El Segundo" & a die hard Q-Tip fan since his first cameo on the Jungle Brothers "Black Is Black". Greg N-I-C-E hangin' at K-N-Y-E-W

Yesterday afternoon, our boy & long time Knyewtron supporter, DJ Direct, stopped by the shop with the one & only Greg Nice from Nice & Smooth. Flying in from NY to Vegas for his performance at LAVO's "Oldschool Weds" party, Greg Nice arrived a day early to wild out with Direct & ofcourse, cop some gear from his NY bredrens at KNYEW (it's mandatory people). In case you youngsta's don't know, Nice & Smooth are known for a bunch of hits like "Funky For You", "Hip-Hop Junkies", "Sometimes I Rhyme Slow" & the classic "Dwyck" with Gangstarr front man Guru (RIP). For the past 3 weeks, my shop girl Jaz & I have been taking flicks & collecting photos from our Wednesday night party at LAVO, documenting every inebriated moment in the club. Due to massive incoming deliveries, tax returns & constant traveling, I didn't get a chance to go through any of our pics with Jaz until earlier this week. Here's a look at some of the fantastic craziness that went down with the KNYEW Crew & the fam at "Old School Wednesdays". I gotta give a special thanks to all our friends who came out to support this amazing party. We had industry heads, LV locals, DJ's & homies from NY to Cali stop through. "Oldschool Weds" at LAVO Continues...

Our "Old School Wednesdays" party at LAVO is still going! As we approach week 4, it's hard to believe that a night of all hip-hop, r&b, breaks & classics could thrive on the strip. We've had such an incredible turn out every week & the response from everyone including the LAVO staff & management has been overwhelmingly positive. This week, we'll have a special live performance from old school legend ROB BASE who'll perform his iconic hip-hop anthem "It Takes Two". Needless to say, seeing this song being performed live will definitely be a first for me & I can't wait to see Rob Base get on stage & recite those unforgettable lyrics "I wanna rock right now, I'm Rob Base & I came to get down...". Can't believe we're going on week 3 of our "Old School Wednesdays" party at LAVO! The turn outs been great & we appreciate all the support we've been getting from our loyal Knyewtrons & local Las Vegas hip-hop heads. His classic hits like "Funky Cold Medina" & the mega-single "Wild Thing" from the album "Loc-ed After Dark" are staples in any Top 100 Countdown whether it be pop or hip-hop. Once again it is on!!!! This week's Old School Wednesday is featuring one of our favorite Hip Hop acts from NYC, Black Sheep! Black Sheep debuted in 1991 with the hit song "Flavor of the Month" and later released their first album, A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing which gained them praise and recognition in the hip-hop community for the album’s unique rhythms and intelligent lyrics. Calling all Knyewtrons & local LV-City Taste Makers!! Starting this Wednesday night, April 13th, we'll be hosting a weekly Old School hip-hop party at LAVO nightclub in the Palazzo Hotel & Casino. For our first event, we have special guest & hip-hop icon Rev Run from Run Dmc performing live along with yours truly, DJ Crooked, on the wheels of steel. There'll be a good mix of old school & current hip-hop, throwback classics & breaks all night long. With the overwhelming invasion of electronic music that's spread through out the city, this will be one of the only weekly hip-hop parties in town so come out & support!!
