This mixtape is a dope 40 minute introduction to a new sound that's starting to get a lot of play in the club's recently. For those of you who's not familiar with Moombahton, its a new form of electronic dance music that combines the sound of dutch house slowed down with a bit of reggaeton. "Oldschool Weds" at LAVO with Phife from A Tribe Called Quest

It's been almost 5 months now & our "Oldschool Weds" party at LAVO has been thriving, getting better & better every week all thanks to the support of our Knyewtrons in & out of Las Vegas. This week we got Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest & actor/director Michael Rappaport in the building, celebrating the release of their new documentary "Beats Ryhmes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest". Having seen this doc over 5 times, I can't explain how amazing it was to see the birth, life & tragic destruction of my favorite childhood hip-hop captured on film. I've been an ATCQ fan since "I Left My Wallet In El Segundo" & a die hard Q-Tip fan since his first cameo on the Jungle Brothers "Black Is Black". Since our opening in 2007, we've been using this Blogger site to showcase everything from new clothing to promotional events & it's served us fairly adequately for the past 4 years. But due to the many requests & complaints sent via email from as far as London & Montreal, we're putting this old Blogger site to rest & launching a new website with a full online store that will provide shipping worldwide. On September 1st 2011, accompanying the grand opening of our relocation, KNYEW 2.0 will be launching to the public!!!...(dramatic pause). Crooked signing out!

12 Days To Go...

We finally finished our flooring at the new location & I must say, we're pretty damn pleased with the outcome. After minimizing our choices between "Midnight Black", "Black Ocean" & "The Grim Reaper Is Knocking Black", me & Neva were pleased with our final choice of "Midnight Black" for the concrete staining. Be sure to refer to the flooring as "Midnight Black" when you step foot onto our new floors at 3999 Spring Mountain. Any other description besides "Midnight Black" would be an insult to you & your own ignorance.

One of THE most fun things to ever do in life is picking out baseboards. In actuality, it's pretty annoying & idiotic but somehow it took me & Neva a good 45 minutes to make a final decision. The winning factor was of course..."which one is the cheapest?"
Here we see Neva aka Black Panda inspecting the new partition wall being built. In his mind, he's thinking to himself..."how many lapdances at Rhino did me & Crooked lose by building this fuckin' wall?" It's bad news for us but good news for you Knyewtrons cause this "fuckin' wall" will finally have a fitting room for you guys.

One of the last things you'd expect to work into a budget at retail space is the bathroom. Lucky for us, the bathroom we acquired with the property was, to say the least, a real shit hole. Horror film comes to mind. The type of bathroom you'd expect an alien creature to crawl into someone's ass as they were taking a shit...(TMI, I know).
In the end, the KNYEW Crew really needs a nice & cozy place to rest our asses so a new toilet will most definitely have to make it's way into the budget. A bidet wouldn't be a bad idea either...and on that note, Crooked signing out!

The rumors are true....KNYEW will be moving locations at the end of the month! It's been almost 4 years now & we've unfortunately out grown our old space & are moving across the street into the Center at Spring Mountain strip mall between Valley View & Wynn. We'll be located right in between the infamous Pho Kim Long restaurant & the banh mi giant Lee's Sandwiches (both open 24 hours & highly recommended for late night grubbing after the club).

On Sept.1st 2011, we'll be opening our doors for the very first time at 3999 Spring Mountain. We welcome all our Knyewtrons, virgins & veterans, to come to our Grand Opening that Thursday to experience this slightly new but continued venture. Until next time...Crooked signing out!

Whenever Sean releases a new mixtape, I'm always anxious to hear them cause they never disappoint. "Coo11in" is a straight up, raw hip-hop/r&b mix that ends with a splash of Dance/Electro, perfect for listening to in your whip while you're driving down the block or lamping at the park, drinking something cold in a paper bag. I've had the pleasure of knowing Sean for almost 6 years & not only is he a good friend but he's one of my favorite DJ's in the game. Flying in from NY to Vegas for his performance at LAVO's "Oldschool Weds" party, Greg Nice arrived a day early to wild out with Direct & ofcourse, cop some gear from his NY bredrens at KNYEW (it's mandatory people). You Knyewtrons might be familiar with Rumour who was featured on "Mixtape Monday's" earlier this year for his classic "90's R&B Mix". "Rumor Has It 2011" is a mix of all the latest club bangers from Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Avicii, & Calvin Harris. He even throws in a little Moombahton at the end of the mix. If you're having a house party & you need the perfect mix to get that club vibe going, then "Rumor Has It" is a must have. I finally got a chance to meet Rumor back in February when he was spinning at the M.A.G.I.C. Trade Show here in Vegas. If you happened to be driving along Paradise, towards McCarran International Airport, trying to catch a flight out of Vegas, you might have seen a billboard for Skam Artist management featuring KNYEW's own DJ Crooked. For those of you who don't know, Skam Artist is a DJ management company who represent some of the best DJ's in the country like DJ Five, Ob-One, Ross One, Roctakon, Fashen, Vice, Eric D-Lux, Lil Jon, Swizz Beatz, Skribble & surprisingly, DJ Crooked. Without his usual Yankee fitted on, Crooked was featured in last month's "I Am A Skam Artist" billboard, a marketing campaign to showcase Skam Artist management's DJs who reside in Las Vegas. I always told Crooked that if I ever saw his face on a billboard, I was gonna clown him nonstop!! But I can't front, the billboard looks dope & he found a way to throw in our "KNYEW" logo to rep for all us Knyewtrons. Congrats fam!!! This week's special 4th of July entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "Mas Trabajo" by The Captains Of Industry aka "Your Favorite DJ's Favorite DJs" aka DJ Stonerokk & DJ Graham Funke. "Mas Trabajo" is the the official follow up to their 2007 widely popular mix "Trabajo". To be honest, I haven't stopped listening to this new mix, featuring the latest club bangers blended perfectly with timeless oldies but goldies from every genre of music you can think of. Within the last 10 years since they've teamed up, the Captains have not only held down residencies at Hollywood's newest tabloid friendly hot spots but they also spin at some of the biggest nightclubs in the country (Las Vegas, Miami & Chicago to name a few).

If you happen to be in Vegas you can catch them sippin' on sangria and spinning at "Regatta Chic Sundays" at Marquee Dayclub inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino. In our defense, the temperature in Vegas was simmering at a frightening 110 degrees. And even though we were protected by air conditioned walls, the heat must've boiled our brains somehow. MIXTAPE MONDAYS: Grandmaster Flash

This week's entry for "Mixtape Monday's is called "Essential Mix: Classic Edition" by the legendary Grandmaster Flash. This mixtape is definitely one of my top 5 favorite mixtapes of all time. I used to play this CD so much that I had to buy another copy cause the original got worn out & scratched up. Originally released in 2002, the "Essential Mix" is a mix of classic R&B/B-Boy classics like "Rapture" by Blondie, "Before I Let Go" by Maze ft Frankie Beverly, "Give It Up Or Turn It Loose by James Brown, "Liquid Liquid" by Cavern", I Can't Wait" by Nu Shooz & many more. If you grew up in New York during the early to mid 80's & was at a neighborhood block party, the songs featured on this mixtape would've been the music blasting out of every speaker. One of the founding fathers of hip hop & considered one of the greatest Hip-Hop DJ's of all time, Flash is also responsible for developing & perfecting the following DJ techniques that are still practiced to this day: Cutting, Back Spinning & Punch-Phrasing.
Because of Flash's pioneering skills as a dj, it has been said that he was able to transform the turntable into a musical instrument. But of all the achievements he's accomplished in the past 35 years of his career, the best had to be was when he (along with his group "The Furious Five") was the first Hip-Hop/Rap group to be inducted into the "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" back in 2007. Still to this day you can catch Flash performing live at nightclubs throughout the world. As a matter of fact, if you happen to be in Vegas this coming Wednesday, June 30th, you can see him spinning alongside Knyew's own DJ Crooked at Lavo Nightclub for our weekly "Oldschool Wednesday" party in the Palazzo Hotel & Casino. Many thanks to Grandmaster Flash for not only providing us with this week's mixtape but for also being a trailblazer in Hip-Hop & making it possible for DJ's (like myself) to sustain a career . This past weekend, we invaded Downtown Vegas once again for the "Vegas Streats!" festival at the El Cortez Hotel & Casino. Vegas Streats! is held monthly, every second Saturday & features the very best in food, art, music & fashion that Las Vegas' local scene has to offer. From 6pm to 2am, you can expect to see special live performances, rotating djs, graffiti artwork, local streetwear shops/brands like Civilian, Grandiose, Pharmacy, Suite 160 & a line of food trucks like Slidin Thru & Fuku Burger. This week's entry for "Mixtape Mondays" is called "The S-Bar Mixtape" by DJ Zimmie, DJ Nugget & DJ T-One. You Knyewtrons might be familiar with Pittsburgh's own DJ Zimmie & DJ Nugget. They have both been featured on Mixtape Mondays before but this time around, they got together with their homie DJ T-One and put together this mix to celebrate the 4 year anniversary of S-Bar in Pittsburgh. Since it's opening S-Bar has been at the forefront of nightlife in Pittsburgh. As a special thank you to their local supporters they decided to have their resident DJ's put together this special mix. Knyewtron Takes The Cake!

Earlier last week we celebrated the birthday of KNYEW's very own Korean Soul Brother, the one and only, Kenn Davenport aka Killa Knyewtron!! You know the man well. No he's not Somoan but yes, that is his real hair. He holds down the fort at KNYEW headquarters everyday, making the wheels turn & servicing all you faithful Knyewtrons with the newest streetwear gear. In honor of Mr. Knyewtron's bornday, I decided to surprise the homie & have a custom cake made for the special occasion. Needless to say, I think the cake came out pretty ill and it tasted pretty damn good too. Many thanks to Nara from Pastry Palace for the incredible work. Who doesn't love a good grilled cheese sandwich? There's nothing like cheezy melty goodness oozing from two crunchy pieces of buttery toast. Our boys at the Muncheeze Truck (the Grilled Cheese Guru's of The LV City) stopped through the shop this past week to introduce their new sandwich dedicated to KNYEW. What do you get when you mix Nutella spread with cream cheese, fresh cut strawberries & buttered toast all grilled to perfection...the Knewtella Sammich!!!
